The 2021 The Sands Pinot Noir Story

Pinot Noir is Charles' first love, a red wine grape variety associated with the Burgundy region in France. The name derives from the French words for "pine" and "black", which reference the similarity between the clusters of Pinot Noir grapes and the shape of pine cones! Affectionately known as the 'Heartbreak Grape', it's ideally suited to cool-climate areas, making the Mornington Peninsula an ideal terroir for this acclaimed and adored varietal.

Tasting Notes

Selectively harvested then cold soaked for up to 3 days prior to 100% whole berry fermentation in open pot vessels. Gently hand plunged during ferment for controlled flavour and tannin extraction.

Predominantly ferments were inoculated with a Burgundian selection of yeast strain, with some batches allowed to ferment naturally. 9 months barrel maturation in 15% new French oak (80% puncheon and 15% barriques) prior to bottling.

An intensely fruited and perfumed aromatic profile combines dark cherry, plum, raspberry, wild strawberry and currant notes. A structurally generous and gratifying palate offers both clarity of fruit expression and drive.

13.2% Alc/Vol.
