Tasting Notes

2021 Fume Blanc

A Fume Blanc refers to a dry Sauvignon Blanc with some French oak influence in the wine. Originating from the Bordeaux region of France, Sauvignon Blanc is a green-skinned grape, white wine variety which has gained a popular following here in Australia. Victoria's cool regions produce clean, vibrant Sauvignon Blancs, with those in the Yarra Valley region producing a fullness and tropical fruit centre.

Lifted lemon rind, sugar snap peas, subtle passionfruit and poached pear aromatics combine with hints of coconut slice. Racy natural acidity provides focus on the palate however the wine provides textural interest and nutty, saline characters and very subtle oak nuance. 12.6%. 8 months barrel maturation in old French Oak.

2021 Pinot Grigio

Our Pinot Grigio has been made with winemaking decision to move towards a drier, Italian style. Charles' take on Pinot Grigio involves bright aromatic fresh stone fruits, with subtle oak influence to provide structure and complexity to the wine.

The Pinot Grigio fruit was hand-picked in the cool of the morning, then whole bunch pressed with a 25% portion of the juice fermented wild in aged French barriques and the remainder fermented slowly in tank at low temperature. The resultant wine is brightly aromatic and vibrant, yet complex, textural and savoury on the palate.

2021 Chardonnay

Chardonnay is the most widely planted white wine grape in the world, and here in the Yarra Valley it is classed as the premium variety. The typically cool climate in the valley balances out hot days with cool crisp nights, allowing the grapes to flourish and produce that fine acidic zest Chardonnay lovers adore. Charles' take on his Estate Chardonnay has purposely moved away from the characteristic over-oaked flavouring, to a "new style" which focuses on subtle and integrated oak to deliver texture, weight and an enjoyable structure.

Fresh aromas of crisp lime entwine with hints of cashew and brioche, finishing with flinty oyster-shell characters. A creamy mid-palate sits well with citrus and subtle stone fruit flavours, balanced with seductive French oak, delighting on a tight finish. Cellaring potential of 5-8 years. 12.6% Alc/Vol.
